On first launch, enter your name and your school level (collège, lycée, or higher education). Then configure at least one AI provider in Settings, open a conversation, and describe your exercise — the tutor will guide you step by step.
hypatia lets you bring your own AI backend. The easiest free options:
https://openrouter.ai/api/v1, paste your key, and pick a model (free models are tagged).https://api.groq.com/openai/v1, and enter a model name (e.g. llama-3.3-70b-versatile).iOS blocks plain http:// connections by default (App Transport Security). Local servers such as Ollama or LM Studio use HTTP, so you’ll need to expose them over HTTPS — via a reverse proxy (Caddy, nginx) or a tunnel (ngrok, Tailscale).

Note: when you use a remote AI provider, your messages are sent to that provider to generate a reply, under their terms. Apple Intelligence and the local model keep everything on-device.
Open the Profile tab and change your level (collège, lycée, higher education). The tutor immediately adapts its vocabulary, pacing, and rigour to the new level.
Yes. You can attach images from the camera, your photo library, or the clipboard — they’re analyzed with AI vision or OCR. You can also paste a copied image into the Notes tab and run one-tap text recognition to capture the exercise as text.
French, English, Spanish, Chinese (Simplified), Japanese, Hindi, Indonesian, Tamil, Vietnamese, and Khmer.
The app works with free AI models (via OpenRouter or Groq), Apple Intelligence, or a fully local model — so you can use it at no cost. If you connect a paid provider (Claude, GPT, etc.), you pay that provider directly for your usage.
